SOMEBODAE School of the Arts

"I am somebody (somebodae), I am somebody (somebodae),
to have around, on God's green ground." -Mamie Nell Watson

"SOMEBODAE" pronunciation is Some-bod-day.
"I am somebody (somebodae), I am somebody (somebodae),
to have around, on God's green ground." -Mamie Nell Watson
SOMEBODAE School of the Arts (SSA or SoArts), is a non-profit, scholarship base (tuition free) Performing and Visual Arts School. The "Full Program" is open to individuals ages 14 to grown folks of our inner-cities across the U.S., with none to advance level training in the performing and visual arts where enrollment is per scholarship via audition. The "Short Program" is a lighter version of the Full Program yet open to the general public ages 13 to grown folks with no audition or scholarship required and you DO NOT have to be a resident of an inner city, underserved community. The SSA programs incorporates "Integrated Arts Education." In addition to preparing students for advanced study at the college level and professional careers in the Arts, students in the program learn the value and power of self-worth, personal discipline, innovative thinking, collaborative exploration, dedication, creativity, confidence, problem solving skills, perseverance, focus, communication, accountability and how artists are true instruments for powerful artistic expression. The SSA experience will enhance academic education of students for their academic success while advancing the artistic skills of those training in the SSA program of their specific arts disciplines. SSA is more than just an Arts school. SSA is governed by a volunteer group of board of directors.

Our U.S. inner-cities, underserved communities are more than gang intimidation and violence, are more than simply an expression of the competitive struggles in communities with little to offer, distortion is related to lack of representation, some of our greatest, bar none, badassical, stellar, spiffylicious and cramazing talents are products of our inner-cities. Yes, we're re-investing in our inner-cities, underserved communities via the Arts.

Many are aware of the efforts of Somebodae School of the Arts to consciously, consistently and constantly cultivate, educate, explore, expose and invest in our inner-cities, underserved communities via the Arts, but many are not aware there's been far too many attempts to hinder and block those efforts and initiatives, although the attempts to hinder and block are strategic, at the end of the day the attempts is still "HATE." Please note, you cannot keep, talk nor take us out of our journey for no weapon formed against this effort shall prosper.

FULL & SHORT PROGRAMS:
The "Full Program" ages 14 to grown folks of our inner-cities across the U.S. (audition for scholarship required) embodies a traditional Visual and Performing Arts curriculum with multicultural and experimental arts courses. The "Short Program" open to the general public ages 13 to grown folks with no audition or scholarship required and you DO NOT have to be a resident of an inner-city/ underserved community, is a lighter version of the Full Program, it utilizes a mix & match technique of the Full Program's core curriculum in an attempt to tailor the program for that specific community that may consist of one or all of the core disciplines. The core curriculum of the Full Program consist of Theatre, Music, Dance and Art/ Visual Arts courses with additional non core curriculum classes, workshops, master classes and a Interdisciplinary Performing Conservatory/ Company where students will have the opportunity to perform works within the community, county, statewide and U.S. The Short Program may consist of one or all of the core disciplines. The programs focuses on developing the artistry of the student, performance quality, the fundamental elements of performing arts and visual arts, strong technical capability and skill, will focus on providing the students with the tools to shape a career that fits their individual talents and ambitions while addressing personal needs as well as the artistic needs and strengths in the various arts disciplines.

MISSION:
To consciously, consistently and constantly cultivate, educate, explore, expose and invest. To offer an effective, healthy, constructive and productive association and socialization outlet. To raise the representation of our young adults and adults in programs for the gifted and talented, post-secondary education and in the arena of "gifted artist." To develop technically skilled, artistically sophisticated, intelligent artists. To expose the students to the beauty and essence of the arts, the traditions from a artistic and global cultural perspective and from historical precedent while engaging in experimental examinations of all art forms and cultures, to name a few.

FOUNDATION:
Everybody is Somebodae. One of the important foundational ingredients of this effort is to change a nation's foul process. So many including our inner-city young adults and adults are denied opportunity simply because of who they are, what they are and or where they're from, a wise man once said "you don't have to know me in order to give me opportunity, know my story," another wise man once said "I don't have to know who the author of a book is in order to read the book that's not even about the author." Read the book, and if indeed that book works for you, if it's opportunity for you, can benefit you, benefit the community etc... then please seize the opportunity, you shouldn't have to know who the author of the book is in order to read the book. This effort is about opportunity for everyone's book, everyone's story via the arts, regardless of who or what they are, everybody is Somebodae. Please, Please read the book.
